Our Story

Built on the Water. Built for the Water.

Our story begins in Utah, a place where the mountains rise just beyond the back door and the grocery store views are unbeatable. Growing up, I spent countless days outside with my family, learning early on that the best things in life are simple: cold water, a quiet trail, and the people you love beside you.

How It Started

Over time, fly fishing became more than a hobby. It became an obsession. The patience, the intention, and the deep love for the wild shaped who I am. But out on the river, I began to notice a gap. The gear I relied on didn't reflect the values behind the lifestyle—care, craftsmanship, and simple utility.

Instead, I found myself dealing with a frustration every angler knows: fumbling through bulky fly boxes mid-wade, losing flies to the current, and wasting precious time doing anything other than fishing.

So, I decided to build a better way.

The Philosophy Behind the Gear

We're anglers first. Surrounded by some of the finest trout water in the country, we spend our days on the river designing gear that reflects what we actually need out there—not what looks good on a retail shelf, but what works when the hatch is on and every second counts.

Every piece of Tin Trout gear is handcrafted in small batches right here in Utah. We use strong neodymium magnets where others use cheap plastic latches, and we obsess over the micro-details.

Meet the Maker

Hi, I'm Bridger Porter—founder of Tin Trout Fly Company.

I started this company because I couldn't find fly storage that actually worked the way I fish. I wanted something I could grab a fly from without breaking my rhythm, something that wouldn't dump my entire collection into the river if my hands were cold, and something built to last more than a single season.

Tin Trout is a small, intentional operation. Every product that leaves our shop has been handcrafted, detailed, and tested on real water, in real conditions, by people who actually fish.
